About Leigh

Leigh Jaynes joined her high school wrestling team thanks to Coach Brian Bowker, who saw past gender and recognized her potential. His support was the spark that ignited her journey in the sport.

In 2002, Leigh joined the United States Army to fund her college education, a valuable lesson her mother instilled in her: money doesn’t grow on trees. While at Missouri Valley College, Leigh earned an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and a Master's in Management.

Leigh’s wrestling career reached Olympic-caliber status when she competed at the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in 2007, 2012, and 2015 for Team USA, earning a World Bronze Medal in 2015—one of her most significant achievements.

Leigh served 14 years in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Service Corps, with 8 of those years activated to the Army’s World Class Athlete Program. The remaining 7 years, she lived on-campus at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, fully immersed in her sport.

Today, Leigh is the Varsity Head Coach for girls’ wrestling at Phoenix Christian Preparatory School and an assistant coach at Grand Canyon University. She is also completing her medical billing and coding certification while working in Health Informatics at a local VA hospital.
